Southwest Airlines ready to serve 57 million customers this peak season
With summer travel set to begin in earnest this Memorial Day Weekend, the Southwest Team – more than 74,000 strong – is prepared to deliver the world-famous Hospitality during the peak travel season.
Between Friday, May 24 and Monday, Sept. 2, Southwest expects to connect nearly 57 million customers1 to their vacation plans, business trips, and all that summer travel has to offer.

Flexin' in the sun
Throughout the summer and beyond, all Southwest Customers will be treated to an unmatched flexibility they uniquely offer on every fare, every time, for every passenger:
- No change fees or cancel fees (up to 10 minutes prior to departure)
- First two checked bags fly free (weight and size limits apply)
- Flight credits that never expire
- Points that never expire
Plus, customers may list themselves on same-day standby, without paying a fare difference, and take an earlier flight if space is available.
Hospitality on the ground, in the air, and online
The customers know the Southwest Employees deliver Hospitality on the ground, at the airport, and in the air.
For summer 2024, they're continuing to lean into self-service options. Southwest.com is a one-stop shop for low fares, Wanna Go Wednesdays, and the recently introduced capability to book using a combination of cash and points.
On the Southwest app, they added the ability to check bags ahead of airport arrival and digital bag tracking along with existing features to add EarlyBird Check-In, purchase Upgraded Boarding, and list lap children within the app. Plus, they recently added an ability to track incoming aircraft to provide more real-time updates before departure.
Set for summer
With the operations modernization projects rolling along to support the long-term and daily performance, Southwest's operational performance year-to-date includes a flight completion factor of nearly 99 percent and improved metrics in baggage handling.
The airline working hard to make it easier to do business with Southwest with new capabilities, a renewed focus on the reliability, and always to improve the top-ranking performance in delivering bags and turning aircraft on schedule to keep plans moving.
