After three years, Delta Air Lines has landed once again at the Cozumel International Airport. On Sunday, a plane of 147 passengers landed from Atlanta, reported Mayor Juanita Alonso Marrufo.
The Delta Atlanta to Cozumel flight will arrive daily after a 3-year break, she reported. The new route will strengthen overnight tourism and therefore the island’s economy she said.
With the traditional water arch and inaugural ribbon cutting, the arrival of the return of Delta Air Lines was officially announced, a fact that was pronounced historic for Cozumel due to the absence of the airline since March 2020.
Mayor Juanita Alonso Marrufo said the flight arrived at the beginning of the high tourism season.
Representative of the Tourism Promotion Council of Quintana Roo in Cozumel (CPTQ), Pablo Alfonso Aguilar Torres, said the recovery of flights is historical, which have increased from 37 a week to now, 59.
He said that Delta Air Lines is a valuable commercial partner for Cozumel and having its flights back is important. He added that from December 16, 2033 to April 8, 2024 Delta will increase its frequencies on Saturday, Monday and Wednesday, arriving from the city of Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Delta will arrive in Cozumel daily with a Boeing 737-800 with capacity for 160 passengers. It’s inaugural flight arrived at 1:40 p.m. Sunday with 147 passengers and departed at 3:20 p.m. for its original destination with 35 on board.
