Initial expectations exceeded

Tulum International has received its one millionth passenger. Sunday, Governor Mara Lezama called it a historic day, saying the airport has exceeded expectations.

On Sunday, airport passenger Gerardo Treviño Zúñiga, arrived from Laredo, Tamaulipas, arrived at the Tulum International Airport on a Viva Aerobús flight from Monterrey. He was passenger one million, a figure the airport has racked up during its first 11 months in operation.

The arrival of our one-millionth passenger is a significant event that reflects the confidence that the world places in Mexico and in Quintana Roo as a leading destination.

This achievement, backed by a return rate of more than 59 percent, shows that this government is moving in the right direction,” Lezama said during the Sunday event.

The Governor announced that since its inauguration, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) projected the Tulum airport to receive 700,000 passengers and operate 4,500 flights in its first year. However, it has far exceeded these expectations, already accumulating more than 7,790 operations and reaching the figure of one million passengers.

With this growth rate it is expected to close 2024 with 10,100 operations and 1.3 million passengers, consolidating itself as a hub of connectivity for the Mexican Caribbean,” she said.
