According to the Secretaría de Comunicaciones y Transportes (SCT), the five largest US airlines exceeded pre-pandemic levels with Mexican passengers, reporting 2.3 million passengers in July, the highest on record.
American Airlines, which remains at the top of the segment, carried 24.3 percent more users than in July of 2019, followed by United Airlines, with 22.2 percent more passengers.
Lower volume companies have also found room to grow significantly, such as Spirit Airlines who shot up by 146 percent from 50,936 in July of 2019 to 125,542 in July of 2021 after opening new routes to Puerto Vallarta.
