From January to July, 12,191,000 international tourists arrived in the country by air

The Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico says that during the first seven months of the year, more than 12 million international air tourists have arrived.

Miguel Torruco Marqués, the Secretario de Turismo del Gobierno de México, reported that from January to July, 12,191,000 international tourists arrived in the country by air. He pointed out that the figure is a 70.2 percent increase over the same period in 2021.

Torruco Marqués says that the main international tourist flows are arriving from the United States, Canada and Colombia. He reported that those three countries accounted for 9.4 million of Mexico’s international air tourists during those seven months.

He detailed that those 9,401,000 international air tourists are a 59.1 percent increase over 2021, and a 10.7 percent increase over the same period in 2019.

He also pointed out that the Cancun International Airport remains the most busy in the country followed by the AICM (Mexico City International Airport) and Los Cabos. He reported that those three airports recorded the landing of 9,420,000 international tourists.

The head of the Ministry of Tourism highlighted that, according to information from the Migration Policy-Registration and Identity of Persons Unit of the Ministry of the Interior, this figure also exceeds the arrivals of the same period of 2019 by 3.4 percent.

So far this year, 40.9 percent more American tourists have arrived in Mexico than the same time last year and 19.9 percent more than in 2019. During the first seven months of the year, the Government of Mexico has recorded the arrival of 7,968,000 American tourists.

During that time, 945,575 Canadian tourists have arrived, a 1,197.9 percent increase over the same time in 2021 due to their covid-19 travel restrictions. However, these 2022 figures are still 37.8 percent lower than what Mexico recorded in 2019, which was just over 1.5 million Canadians.

During the period January to July of 2022, Mexico recorded 486,886 Colombian tourists, an increase of 168.4 percent compared to 2021, and a 48.8 percent increase over 2019 figures.
