The Secretary of Tourism reports the state has recovered around 84 percent of its pre-pandemic tourist figures. Tourism Secretary Andrés Aguilar Becerril says during 2021, more than 12.5 million people visited the state.

Those figures represent a recovery of around 84 percent of pre-covid-19 numbers. During the last year, a total of 12,548,582 visitors arrived in Quintana Roo. Of those, 7,152,692 were international travelers, while the remaining 5,395,890 were national tourists.

Within his annual report, Aguilar Becerril explained that last year, connectivity was a key factor in the increased number of passengers to the state, noting more than 120 cities now connect with Quintana Roo.

He detailed that during the three major holidays seasons, millions arrived. He says the Easter period from March 27 to April 11 saw 665,532 tourists arrive, while the summer period of July 10 to August 29 added another 3,300,193 tourists. The recent winter figures reported another 1,199,926 tourists in the state between December 18, 2021 to January 2, 2022.

For the period of December 1, 2021 to March 31, 2022, he says there is an estimated 6.2 million airplane seats from 124 cities in 28 countries scheduled for the state. Of those, Becerril says 68.5 percent are international and 31.4 percent of those seats are on domestic flights.

Already for 2022, more than 190,000 flights are scheduled for Mexico with over 56,900 of them bound for Cancun.
