According to Despegar, Riviera Maya tops the list of the most-booked last-minute destination by Mexicans. The travel company says last minute bookings have increased across the country by 20 percent with Riviera Maya leading the way as a first choice.

Alejandro Sánchez, Manager of Loyalty and Financial Alliances at Despegar, said that “Last-minute reservations are increasingly common, especially in short holiday periods such as the Easter weekend as Mexicans take advantage of these days to visit family and friends who live in other cities.”

“According to our experience, searches for last-minute travel during Holy Week increase by about 20 percent which shows the interest that Mexicans have in traveling unexpectedly this season.”

Sánchez reported that after Riviera Maya destinations, Veracruz, Mazatlán, Los Cabos and Chihuahua came in as the other top four preferences for Mexicans booking last minute trips.
