News / Continued increase in Cancun flights reinforces forecasts of busy winter season
Cancun Airport continues to average more than 300 operations per day
November 9 - The Cancun International Airport continues to average more than 300 operations per day with the managing company reporting 1,000 operations over the duration of the weekend.
According to information provided by managing company Grupo Aeroportuario del Sureste (ASUR), 1,008 scheduled flights arrived and departed between Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
ASUR says on Sunday, 338 flights were scheduled, 169 arrivals/departures of which 82 were national and 87 international. They report that the international flights included Atlanta, Baltimore, Bogota, Boston, Calgary, Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, Philadelphia, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, Minneapolis, Montreal, New York, Orlando, Panama, Phoenix, Salt Lake, San Francisco, Seattle, Toronto, Washington and Zurich.
They indicated that the international airlines were Air Canada, Alaska, American, Avianca, Copa, Delta, Edelweiss, Frontier, JetBlue, Southwest, Spirit, Sun Country, Sunwing, United and West Jet.
The Quintana Roo Tourism Promotion Council said that the arrival of these additional flights prior to the start of the winter season reinforces the forecasts of a greater number of tourists for the end of the year.
“The tourism promotion efforts that we have carried out in recent months through seminars with travel agents, campaigns and work meetings with airline representatives to whom we have shared topics such as Certification in Health Protection and Prevention developed by the State Tourism Secretariat, has been essential for airlines to restart frequencies,” they agency said.
