Holiday resorts around Cancun and Riviera Maya are reporting a 50% reservation rate

March 29 - Holiday resorts around Cancun and Riviera Maya are reporting a 50 percent reservation rate for the upcoming Easter holiday season. President of the Association of Vacation and Tourist Complexes of Quintana Roo (Acotur), Alberto Solis Martinez, said after the first two-months of the year with a 35 percent occupancy rate, Easter is already showing promise with a 50 percent rate.

Solis Martinez said that beginning next week, they anticipate about 20,000 hotel rooms to be occupied out of their 100 hotel developments in the region. He explained that of those that have made reservations, half are national tourists and the other half, international.

A majority of those international visitors, he noted, are Americans since Canadians remain under strict travel protocols until April 30 and many European cities have actually tightened their holiday travel rules.

He stressed that during the holiday period, health protocols will be reinforced in Acotur’s accommodation centers to guarantee the safety of national and international visitors, as well as staff.

Fortunately, the figures for Easter are going up, which is very good news. Another very important point that we see is related to vaccinations in the United States, which is progressing very well, as in Mexico. That encourages people to want to go out again and obviously, it is very beneficial for the different destinations in the Mexican Caribbean,” he said.

For the southern region, Bertha Medina Núñez, president of the Association of Hotels and Motels in the South of Quintana Roo says Mahahual, which has been consolidating itself as a recreation point “will likely have an 80 percent occupancy rate in general.

Easter is one of the busiest travel seasons for Mexico in terms of both national travelers for Semana Santa, and international travelers looking for a winter thaw during Spring Break.
