The arrival of tourists from January to March 2023 was 19.8 million

The Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico has reported a 60.5% hotel occupancy rate across Mexico. The figures, according to the Secretary of Tourism Miguel Torruco Marqués, are for the first quarter of 2023.

Torruco Marqués says hotel occupancy was 60.5% in the 70 centers monitored by DataTur, which is 9.5 percentage points more than in 2022. For beach centers, an average of 142,685 occupied rooms were registered, while in the same period of 2022 there were 124,300, which represents an increase of 14.8%.

Torruco Marqués highlighted that the arrival of tourists from January to March 2023 was 19.8 million of which 13.9 million were nationals or 69.9% of the total.

He specified that in the beach centers, the occupancy rate was 71.7%, which means an increase of 9 percentage points compared to the same period in 2022, when 62.7% occupancy rate was registered.

He specified that Mexico cities registered 10.8 million tourists in hotel rooms while the beach centers received 9 million tourists during the first three months of 2023.

Torruco Marqués said that during the period of January to March 2023, the busiest tourist centers in Mexico were Akumal with 87.6%, Playacar 86.6% (Playa del Carmen), Cabo San Lucas, 84.5%, New Nayarit, 84.4%, Puerto Vallarta, 83.6% and Cancun 80.5% were beach destinations with the highest occupancy levels.a
