The route is already generating buzz and competition, as local carrier Sun Country Airlines will resume its seasonal service on the same day.

The twin cities are set to be connected to Turks and Caicos this winter, with Delta Air Lines announcing a new seasonal service between Minneapolis–Saint Paul and Providenciales. Starting on January 20th, the once-a-week service will run on Saturdays and continue through the coldest months until April 6th.

Delta looks to take on local Minneapolis carrier Sun Country, who will also resume seasonal services to PLS once a week on the same day.

Delta, the primary carrier at Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport, has been in the process of increasing Caribbean connections across its network and already operates year-round to Cancun and San Juan (Puerto Rico), alongside seasonal services to Belize City, Cozumel, Montego Bay, and Punta Cana.

This is the first time operating the route

As reported, this will be the first time Delta has served Providenciales International Airport (PLS) from MSP. However, they will not be the only carrier on the route. Local Minneapolis carrier Sun Country Airlines will resume its seasonal service on the same day, January 20th, with a once-a-week, Saturday service.

Delta will serve the route earlier in the morning, while Sun Country has opted for an afternoon departure, as below:

Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport (MSP) to Providenciales International Airport (PLS)

  • Delta DL1857, departing MSP at 08:55, touching down at PLS by 14:30 (4hr35mins block time)
  • Sun Country SY796, departing MSP at 12:30, landing at PLS by 17:56 (4hr26mins)

Providenciales to Minneapolis–Saint Paul

  • Delta DL1856, departing PLS at 15:55, arriving back to MSP at 20:10 (5hr15mins)
  • Sun Country SY796, leaving PLS at 19:00, returning to MSP at 23:03 (5hr3mins)

With a quick search of both airlines' websites, Sun Country comes out on top for the cheapest fare for a return ticket departing January 20th, returning 27th, costing $449, vs. $714 for the Delta basic fare.

Searching for sunshine at PLS

Delta already serves PLS from Atlanta year-round, with a connection from New York John F. Kennedy seasonally. American Airlines is to Charlotte and Miami year-round, with seasonal services inbound from Boston, Chicago O'Hare, Dallas, Fort Worth, New York JFK, and Philadelphia.

JetBlue is also welcomed year-round from New York JFK, adding seasonal services from Newark and Boston in the winter, Southwest from Fort Lauderdale yearly, and seasonal services from Baltimore, and United Airlines touching down from Newark and Washington Dulles year-round while adding direct services from Chicago O'Hare, and Dulles during the colder months.

WestJet and Air Canada serve from various locations north of the 49th parallel for those looking to visit from further abroad. British Airways and Virgin Atlantic serve London Heathrow, among other international carriers connecting to other Caribbean destinations.
