News / Delta Air Lines advances start date for second daily flight between New York JFK and Barcelona El Prat
New service to commence on April 23, 2025
Delta Air Lines has moved forward the launch date of its second daily flight between New York and Barcelona, Spain, with the service now scheduled to start on April 23, 2025.
Moving forward the start date
Data from the aviation analytics company Cirium showed that Delta Air Lines’ latest schedules included changes on its flights from New York John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to Barcelona El Prat Airport (BCN).
The United States-based airline will now start its second daily flight to Barcelona on April 23, 2025, with the itinerary, flight DL128, previously scheduled to begin on May 7, 2025.
Delta Air Lines should utilize the Boeing 767-300ER with 216 seats (151 economy, 21 economy plus, 18 premium economy, and 26 business) to operate DL128, which is scheduled to depart New York-JFK at 17:00 local time (UTC -4), arriving in Barcelona at 07:00 local time (UTC +2) the following day.
Meanwhile, the other daily flight, DL168, is scheduled to depart New York at 22:00 local time (UTC -4) and arrive at 11:55 local time (UTC +2) the next day. This itinerary should be operated by a 767-400ER with a cabin configuration of 238 seats: 156 economy, 28 economy plus, 20 premium economy, and 34 business.
Flights to Barcelona
In addition to the two planned daily itineraries from New York-JFK, Delta Air Lines has also planned daily flights from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) in April 2025.
By June 2025, the airline’s schedule to the Spanish city will expand to include Boston Logan International Airport (BOS), with the carrier totaling 27 weekly flights from Atlanta, Boston, and New York to Barcelona during the month, up until October 2025, coinciding with the end of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) summer season.
Other airlines flying from New York-JFK to Barcelona include oneworld carriers American Airlines and Iberia, with both carriers scheduling daily flights on the route during the upcoming summer season.
However, LEVEL, a Barcelona-El Prat Airport (BCN)-based subsidiary of the International Airlines Group ( IAG), could also launch its own flights on the route as well. The airline has been in the process of obtaining its air operator’s certificate (AOC). Currently, LEVEL operates flights under Iberia's flight code IB.
Growing transatlantic presence
The schedules showed that in June 2025, Delta Air Lines has scheduled 32 additional weekly flights from the United States to Europe compared to the same month in 2024, including at least eight new routes across the Atlantic Ocean:
However, one route, from Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW) to Dublin Airport (DUB), could be threatened by the current regulatory issues at the latter. While the Irish High Court has temporarily issued a stay order to the imposition of the 32 million annual passenger cap at the airport, things could still change.
Especially as the country will hold a general election at the end of November, with one party, Fianna Fáil, already promising to remove the cap at Dublin Airport (DUB), according to the Irish Independent.
On September 20, Delta Air Lines detailed its summer 2025 plans for its transatlantic network, with a lot of emphasis on Italy, where the airline will add 10% capacity year-on-year (YoY).
