News / British Airways is giving away 1 million Avios to 5 frequent flyers in the US
Avios can be used for travel on various airlines worldwide, including British Airways partners
UK flag carrier British Airways is partnering with Chase to give away one million Avios, the currency used by its frequent flyer program, and a custom luggage set. The sweepstakes commemorate 30 years since the introduction of the British Airways Visa Signature credit card in the United States and is intended to inspire travelers to explore new destinations.
How do you enter?
The oneworld Alliance carrier launched the "Luggage Tagged" sweepstakes to encourage people to travel to visit new destinations around the world and celebrate its longstanding partnership with Chase. In addition, the airline is offering a custom luggage set designed by UK creator Hannah King for the prize winners.
The competition is open exclusively to British Airways Executive Club members ages 18 and up in the US who enter on the official sweepstakes webpage. All eligible consumers can enter daily until August 27th at 23:59 Eastern Time.
Joining the British Airways Executive Club is free, and Avios can be used for redemptions on oneworld carriers and British Airways partners worldwide. As a special gift to its existing customers, British Airways Visa Signature credit card members will receive one additional entry for every daily entry received.
What all do you get?
The grand prize is a custom luggage set and one million Avios (the global loyalty currency of six airlines) to use on travel to destinations across Europe, Asia, Africa, and South America and domestic locations across the US. Avios can also be transferred to other airline loyalty programs that use the currency, including Finnair and Qatar Airways. According to the airline, the million Avios are worth $10,000, and the luggage set is $450. Purchasing the same number of Avios would cost £17,695 ($22,985).
In addition to the headline prize, Chase and British Airways teamed up with UK creator and travel artist Hannah King, founder of Freya Niamh Design, to create luggage sets for winners. The sets comprise a checked bag and carry-on piece that features unique artwork in King's signature vibrant and saturated color palette with nods to the 30th anniversary of the British Airways card and inspired by popular travel destinations New York, London, Santorini, Paris, and Cape Town.
The British Airways card is far from the only Avios-earning card in the United States. Chase also offers cards for fellow IAG flag carriers Iberia of Spain and Ireland's Aer Lingus. Both airlines use Avios as their reward currency, and all three cards currently enjoy an increased sign-up bonus of 85,000 Avios.
Fellow oneworld carrier Qatar Airways also uses Avios for its Privilege Club program and recently launched two cobranded credit cards in the US, both of which come with oneworld elite frequent flyer status.
