News / American Airlines adds flights to Las Vegas for 2024 Super Bowl
On Thursday, February 8, American has 48 flights scheduled to LAS and another 49 the following day
In preparation for a few major events taking place worldwide in February 2024, American Airlines has announced an increase in services to meet demand.
Getting ready for Super Bowl LVIII
The Super Bowl, the championship game for the United States' beloved American Football, takes place every February, and airlines increase their services to the host city to transport those traveling for the Big Game. Earlier today, American Airlines announced its increases to Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas, the host of this season's Super Bowl.
Those hoping to travel to Las Vegas for the game can choose from ten cities on American Airlines, including its hubs and Austin. On Thursday, February 8, American has 48 flights scheduled to LAS and another 49 the following day. Peak departures from Dallas Fort Worth International Airport will reach 14 daily on Thursday and Friday. Returning to DFW, American has 15 flights scheduled on Monday, the day after the game.
This may come as a surprise to some; the hub with the second-highest number of departures to LAS over the weekend is Charlotte Douglas International Airport, with eight flights on Thursday and Friday. Chicago, Los Angeles, and Phoenix will each have five departures on Thursday and Friday, except for Phoenix, which will have six flights on Friday.
American highlighted that the aircraft used from New York City's John F. Kennedy International Airport will be the Airbus A321T, a specially configured, premium-heavy aircraft used on American's flights from Boston/New York to Los Angeles/San Francisco.
The aircraft features Flagship First with lie-flat seats in a 1-1 configuration, Flagship Business in a 2-2 configuration, Main Cabin Extra, and Main Cabin. Those who purchase a ticket in either of the premium cabins from JFK will have access to the new Chelsea and Greenwich lounges.
From Miami and Philadelphia, American will deploy a Boeing 787 to Vegas on Thursday and Friday and one outbound flight on Monday.
Additional Barcelona flights
American is also shifting its operations to Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport for MWC Barcelona 2024, a premier mobile communications trade show that drew almost 90,000 attendees in 2023. Two hundred and two countries were represented at this year's event. American will operate flights from three hubs in Dallas-Fort Worth, Miami, and New York.
From Miami and New York, between February 22 and March 3, American will upgauge to the Boeing 777-200ER and 777-300ER, which seat 273 and 304 passengers, respectively. American will also add flights from DFW for the event, with one daily flight operated by the Boeing 787-9, which has a capacity for 285 passengers.
