Riviera Nayarit
Airline announced that it would increase service on 4 established routes for the upcoming summer season

March 29 - United Airlines announced an increase in the number of flights to Puerto Vallarta-Riviera Nayarit for the upcoming summer season, adding frequencies in four of the already established routes: Denver (DEN), Chicago (ORD), Los Angeles (LAX), and Newark (EWR).

The Chicago-based airline announced that it would continue to expand its operations on more than 20 routes to high-demand destinations. The focus was on beach destinations, including this region, and the company added that none of these routes are new but are simply increasing in frequencies.

Currently, the Denver-Puerto Vallarta/Riviera Nayarit route has one frequency per day, which will increase to three next June. The Chicago-Puerto Vallarta/Riviera Nayarit route will have one daily flight. Newark-Puerto Vallarta/Riviera Nayarit will increase from one frequency to three weekly frequencies. The Los Angeles-Puerto Vallarta/Riviera Nayarit route currently operates two services per week and will increase to one service per day.

According to data provided by Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico (GAP), administrator of the International Airport of Puerto Vallarta “Licenciado Gustavo Díaz Ordaz,” this expansion would represent more than 40 additional flights per week for the destination.

Marc Murphy, managing director of the Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau, believes the increase in air activity is a positive sign for the destination and a show of confidence from the airlines that have serviced this region for years. And even though, for the time being, it will be challenging to attain the same number of flights and frequencies registered before the pandemic, the recovery is underway, with good expectations for the summer.

Routes and adjustments announced by United Airlines:

+ DEN – PVR/RN (From 1x to 2x per day) + ORD – PVR/RN (From 1x per week to 1 per day) + EWR – PVR/RN (From 1x a 3x weekly) + LAX – PVR/RN (From 2x per week to 1x per day)

It is important to reiterate that both the airport and the airlines closely follow protocols and hygiene measures endorsed by state, national and international authorities to prevent possible COVID-19 infections. In the case of the air terminal, the standards—established by the GAP and by the National Chamber of Air Transportation (Canaero)—are state-of-the-art to inspire confidence in passengers and encourage the safe use of air transportation.

Hotels are operating at 50% of their capacity while implementing strict preventive protocols. The same is true for restaurants and tourist service providers who practice intentional social distancing in their establishments and activities.
