July 8 - Spirit, the airline with the “spirited” yellow planes, landed for the first time at the “Gustavo Díaz Ordaz” International Airport. Its arrival strengthens Puerto Vallarta and the Riviera Nayarit’s air connectivity with three new flights from Dallas, Houston, and Los Angeles.

 

The first plane from Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) landed on the runway around 9:30 a.m. and immediately received its traditional “baptism” with a jet of water. Afterward, passengers and crew were welcomed warmly by the Riviera Nayarit and Puerto Vallarta tourism promotion offices. The travelers were genuinely surprised by the enthusiastic reception, although they were eager to go out and discover the Destination’s attractions and beautiful scenery. Spirit Airlines executives also expressed their delight at the launching of the three new routes.

Matt Klein, director of Spirit Airlines, thanked Mexico City and Puerto Vallarta for their collaboration in making the company’s “landing” in this region possible for the first time.

 

“This opening is cause for great celebration. Thank you for being here. I’m grateful for this welcome, and I’m very happy for the work done by the Puerto Vallarta team and for making this first flight possible,” he said.

 

Camilo Martelo, Director of International Airports for Spirit Airlines, said that the inauguration of these three new routes strengthens the airline’s presence in Mexico.

 

“Our airline is all about offering our passengers convenient flights at low fares and to new destinations. We are very proud to welcome you,” he said.

 

 

Riviera Nayarit, a solid destination

Marc Murphy, general director of the Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau (OVC), said that the Riviera Nayarit has overcome the pandemic’s challenges and is now the number one destination in Mexico in terms of investment, which did not stop even during the health crisis.

 

“The pandemic has hit the region’s aviation market quite hard, and this new development should gradually bring normalcy back to this industry,” he said.

 

“I can see that both Puerto Vallarta and Riviera Nayarit are in outright recovery. According to Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico’s numbers, we are just six percentage points away from reaching the number we had in 2019. That is a great recovery, and I believe that in July, we will exceed those numbers.”

 

The Details

The airline will offer daily flights between Puerto Vallarta/Riviera Nayarit and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), along with three weekly flights from Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) and Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), operating on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays.
