Riviera Nayarit
More than 100 flights per week in September 2020

September 9 - The fight activity in the Puerto Vallarta-Riviera Nayarit area continues to increase thanks to the gradual reactivation of domestic and foreign airlines, which in September 2020 generated more than 100 flights per week.

According to the Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico (GAP), which operates the Lic. Gustavo Díaz Ordaz International Airport (serving both Puerto Vallarta and Riviera Nayarit), 11 airlines have restarted their service: seven domestic and four international.

Most of the airlines increased their routes and frequencies, among them Aeroméxico, flying now from Monday through Saturday; Volaris, which restarted its Monterrey flight; and TAR, which increased its frequency from Guadalajara and Aguascalientes, and added flights from San Luis Potosí and Chihuahua. In the case of Interjet, they recently announced a codeshare with Aeromar that will allow them to market the routes jointly.

With respect to international airlines, American Airlines is maintaining its daily flights from Phoenix and Dallas/Ft. Worth and adding in a flight from Los Angeles. Likewise, United Airlines reactivated their flights from Denver, Los Angeles, and Chicago, with one flight on Saturdays and Sundays.

Domestic and international connections

In summary, air connectivity has been reactivated through the month of September with the following domestic cities: Tijuana, Mexico City, León, Guadalajara, Monterrey, Aguascalientes San Luis Potosí, Chihuahua, and San José del Cabo. Meanwhile, US cities that are now connected to the Riviera Nayarit include: Phoenix, Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Jose, Dallas, Houston, Denver, and Chicago, and it’s expected that both routes and frequencies will gradually increase.

By the way, American Airlines will introduce the Airbus A321neo planes next October on the Los Angeles – Puerto Vallarta/Riviera Nayarit route to replace the smaller capacity A319 planes. This action stems from the demand the route has had, which will of course result in the arrival of more passengers during the upcoming fall season.

Safety first

It’s important to emphasize that both the airport and the airlines are following protocols and sanitary measures endorsed by the state, national, and international authorities to prevent possible COVID-19 infections. The actions established by GAP, in the case of the air terminal, and by the National Chamber of Air Transport (Canaero), on behalf of the airlines, are at the forefront in order to provide confidence to passengers and encourage the safe use of air transport.
