News / Delta people give over 11k pints of blood, making Delta the No. 1 American Red Cross corporate blood drive sponsor for fourth straight year
The company hosted 264 blood drives across 62 locations system-wide
July 12 - Throughout the global pandemic, Delta people remained steadfast in their commitment to giving the gift of life through Delta-sponsored blood drives through our partnership with the American Red Cross. Delta employees, retirees and customers contributed 11,347 pints of blood during the 2021 fiscal year (year-end June 30), allowing Delta to remain the No. 1 corporate blood donor sponsor in the U.S. for the fourth consecutive year.
Giving blood has remained essential, and the need is greater than ever due to so many drives being canceled in response to the COVID-19 pandemic over the past 15 months. One important addition to the Delta blood drive program has been community blood drives and partnering with our sponsorship team for joint drives with sports teams that Delta sponsors, like the Atlanta Braves and Atlanta United.
“The Red Cross is grateful to Delta and its people for their continued dedication and commitment to patients across the country in need of lifesaving blood transfusions-- especially during this challenging time,” said Chris Hrouda, president, American Red Cross Biomedical Services. “Unlike other medical treatments, blood cannot be stockpiled, and generous blood donors are the only source for those in need.”
Each Red Cross blood drive and donation center follows the highest standards of safety and infection control to help keep donors safe during the pandemic. For more information on the Red Cross and where to donate, visit RedCrossBlood.org.
“Delta people came together to overcome remarkable challenges presented by COVID-19, and Delta finished strong again this year in our mission to save lives. The fact that we finished at 11,347 pints is another example of the Delta Difference alive and well,” said Tad Hutcheson, Managing Director – Community Engagement. “Thank you to all the Delta people who make a difference and roll up their sleeves to give blood to help save lives all year long, and a special thank you to our blood drive program leaders for their commitment to making every drive count.”
Throughout the 2021 fiscal year, Delta hosted 264 blood drives across a record 62 locations and added 15 new drive locations – three Atlanta community drives, as well as inaugural drives in Las Vegas, NV; Phoenix, AZ; Omaha, NE; Richmond, VA; and Washington, DC, expanding our support in the communities where we live, work and serve.
In addition to blood donations, Delta is an Annual Disaster Giving Program donor at the $1 million level, allowing the American Red Cross to be strategic and proactive in disaster response. The American Red Cross is Delta’s longest-standing not-for-profit partnership dating back to WWII.
