This month, Delta CEO Ed Bastian will be joined by Danny Meyer, Union Square Hospitality Group CEO and Shake Shack founder, to discuss entrepreneurship and the importance of failure, service and empathy, and how they’ve grown through crises.

In Gaining Altitude, Bastian hosts one-on-one conversations with leaders across industries about topics worth navigating – including leadership, entrepreneurship, sustainability, mental health and diversity, and equity and inclusion, among others.

Meyer opened his first restaurant, Union Square Cafe, at age 27. Thirty years later, he’s known around the world for creating beloved restaurants, building a hospitality group and founding Shake Shack. The airline and his restaurants have a similar mission – focusing on service and putting their people first are top priorities.

“Danny is a leader who has defined a path in the restaurant industry and beyond by putting his employees first and delivering enlightened hospitality,” Bastian said. “This series is about learning, and I’ve learned a lot from him.”

These conversations are not new for the airline. Throughout the pandemic, regular virtual town hall discussions were popular among employees that featured community leaders – giving Delta people the opportunity to listen, grow their understanding and drive change. The town halls and the Gaining Altitude series offer viewers a chance to submit their questions live through a moderated Q&A to be a part of the conversation.
