Antigua and Barbuda
Read on for a look at some of the best places to stop and shop in Antigua and Barbuda!

Much like a tree falling in a forest, did a vacation really happen if you don’t take home any souvenirs as proof? Shopping is as much a part of any memorable Caribbean getaway as lounging on the beach or indulging at the spa. While you may not have chosen the dynamic twin-islands of Antigua and Barbuda explicitly for their shopping, you’ll be pleased to learn that the destination punches far above its weight. Beyond the beaches, reefs, and rainforest, visitors will find exceptional duty-free shopping in the Antiguan capital of St. John’s - and beyond.

If you’ve got some luggage space set aside, we’ve got some recommendations for you. Read on for a look at some of the best places to stop and shop in Antigua and Barbuda.

Heritage Quay

Duty-free shopping in Antigua and Barbuda has a stylish and eclectic home at Heritage Quay. Overlooking the bustling harbour in the capital of St. John’s, this trendy waterfront fixture is where visitors and locals alike gather for a little retail therapy. The bright, historic buildings evoke Antigua and Barbuda’s history. Still, the shopping here is mostly contemporary, featuring international luxury brands and designer labels in fashion, as well as a range of products including liquor, jewelry, clothing, cigars, and more.

Cruise passengers arriving from the harbour are a common sight across the complex’s two floors, as Heritage Quay makes for an excellent day trip. With inviting bars, sizzling seafood restaurants, frequent live music performances, and even a casino, shopping is far from the only thing on offer at this Antigua and Barbuda landmark.

It’s hard to recommend just a few shops out of everything available at the Quay. Putting the well-known international brands aside, The Baobab Company offers comfortable, tint-resistant clothing made from organic cotton. Island Beach Bums is the retailer of choice for anyone looking to supplement their swimwear collection. For something a little shinier, Sterlings and AMA Caribbean Gems have jewelry to suit all tastes.

Vendor’s Mall

Seeking quintessentially local souvenirs? The Vendor’s Mall, nestled between Heritage Quay and Redcliffe Quay on Thames Street, is St. John’s foremost craft market. Here, across dozens of colourful open-air stalls, you’ll find local sellers offering a truly dazzling array of goods. Pottery, art, clothing, sarongs, swimwear, and more - the Vendor’s Mall is where visitors can find some of the most unique souvenirs of Antigua and Barbuda.

The 20-odd shops at the Vendor’s Mall are all duty-free. Moreover, they are owned and operated by locals, allowing visitors to directly support the community of Antigua and Barbuda with their patronage.

Friar’s Hill Road

Café Bella, Antigua

If you’re staying in a villa or a smaller property on the outskirts of St. John’s, the many shopping centres along Friar’s Hill Road will likely be your shopping haven of choice. Even if you’re staying in the heart of the capital, it’s worth venturing just two kilometres north to check out this burgeoning shopping district. Epicurean Fine Foods and Pharmacy is one of the most robust and modern supermarkets on the island, while Village Walk Shopping Centre is home to a bank, the popular Café Bella and other restaurants and liquor stores, making it a top destination for long-stay visitors and locals.

Just next door is the storied Woods Mall, where a post office, an urgent care clinic, and pharmaceuticals are just some of the options. The clean and upscale Royal Palm Place similarly features a mix of local boutiques, invaluable services, and even live music, while also hosting The Larder, Antigua’s much-loved sushi bar and deli cafe. Don’t leave Friar’s Hill without stopping by the Pink Mongoose: this bold and charming clothing and home decor store is also one of the best places to pick up fresh, aromatic flowers.

Never Stop Shopping

Fig Tree Studio Art Gallery, Antigua

While the locations explored above are great places to start your shopping adventure in Antigua and Barbuda, our list was far from exhaustive. The Colesome Farmer’s Market provides a convenient venue to try local organic produce, while the Fig Tree Studio Art Gallery provides a seasonal opportunity to engage with (and purchase) the brilliant works of some of the Caribbean’s top artists. Jolly Harbour, south of St. John’s, provides the amenities and variety of Heritage Quay with proximity to desirable hotels and a marina.

We won’t spoil everything. After all, half the fun of shopping is discovering that unique, must-have item you didn’t know you were looking for.
