News / Canopy by Hilton brand debuts in downtown New Orleans
Conveniently located in the heart of the city, the new 176-room hotel, restaurant and bar are influenced by local flavor
Aimbridge Hospitality, a leading global hospitality company, announces the grand opening of the 176-room Canopy by Hilton New Orleans Downtown. The 14-story lifestyle hotel is ideally located near the iconic French Quarter and includes a unique Creole and Cantonese inspired restaurant that pays homage to the city's rich history.
The hotel is a historic renovation of the former Oil and Gas Building built in 1959 and designed in the international style by August Perez & Associates and Edward B. Silverstein & Associates. The building was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2014 for its use of glass, steel and abstract geometry in a skyscraper and has since been transformed into a hotel, restaurant and bar.
Canopy New Orleans Downtown incorporates the sophisticated comfort and authentically local experience that guests have come to expect from the Canopy by Hilton brand. The building's rehabilitated curtainwall provides for maximum daylight and unparalleled views across the city from all guestrooms. The hotel also features amenities such as artisanal quality breakfast using fresh local ingredients, a transfer lounge for guests arriving early or leaving late, and 1,700 square feet of meeting space including access to a private patio. Embracing the neighborhood, "Canopy Enthusiasts" (hotel team members) will connect guests to the best of New Orleans and can schedule a city tour or suggest a local hidden gem to explore. Guests can also grab a complimentary Canopy Bike and discover what the city has to offer.
As a nod to the hotel's location in what used to be the Chinatown district in New Orleans, the hotel's accompanying restaurant, Ginger Roux, is a Creole and Cantonese inspired concept. The new restaurant, led by Chef Jonathan Hostetler, features dishes like crawfish boil fried rice, boudin lumpia, gumbo dumplings, General Tso's alligator, crawfish etouffee shumai and more. Ginger Roux also features a wine selection in addition to cocktails like the Szechuan Fashioned (Sazerac Rye, cherry bitters, simple syrup), Honeysuckle Bubbles (Cathead Honeysuckle Vodka, St. Germain's Elderflower Liqueur, pineapple jalapeño juice, lemon juice, champagne float), The Ampersand (Baijiu, Campari, blood orange soda), Purple Reign (Empress Gin, blackberry simple syrup, lemon juice, grapefruit soda) and more that combine the cultures of the area.
Canopy New Orleans Downtown is also home to a new bar, The Herbalist, which features cocktails, gourmet coffee and espresso drinks, exotic loose-leaf teas, fresh squeezed juices, fresh pastries, Creole treats and more for breakfast.
The new Canopy New Orleans Downtown will participate in Hilton Honors, the guest-loyalty program for Hilton's world class portfolio of 18 distinct hotel brands which boasts nearly 128 million members. Members who book directly will have access to instant benefits, including a flexible payment slider that allows members to choose nearly any combination of Points and money to book a stay, exclusive member discounts, free standard Wi-Fi and access to the Hilton Honors mobile app.
NewcrestImage and Baywood Hotels developed this hotel as a joint venture that was sold to Summit as the last remaining hotel of the 27-hotel transaction. The hotel is owned by a joint venture between affiliates of Summit Hotel Properties, Inc. (NYSE: INN) and GIC, Singapore's sovereign wealth fund, and was developed by NewcrestImage.
