Tropical Storm Imelda – All Clear Issued for New Providence and Several Islands

The Bahamas Meteorological Department has issued the All Clear for New Providence, Andros, the Berry Islands, San Salvador, Rum Cay, Long Island, Exuma and its Cays, and Cat Island. Tropical Storm Imelda is moving into the extreme Northwest Bahamas, and normal conditions have returned to these islands.

Some areas may still experience brief periods of rainfall, isolated thunderstorms, or localized minor flooding as outer rainbands pass through. Travelers and residents are advised to exercise normal caution when moving around these areas.

The Nassau Airport Development Company (NAD) confirms that Lynden Pindling International Airport (LPIA) has completed safety inspections. All airport infrastructure, including runways, taxiways, terminal facilities, and critical systems, has been cleared for operation. Flight services are scheduled to resume at 10:00 a.m. today.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, Investments & Aviation, the Honourable I. Chester Cooper, stated: "We are pleased that LPIA is ready to resume operations. Assessments are ongoing across affected areas, and so far there have been no reports of significant impact to property or infrastructure. Our priority is ensuring a smooth and safe travel experience for residents and visitors, and we encourage everyone to stay informed through official updates.

NAD continues to coordinate with airport partners, including Air Traffic Services, Bahamas Customs, Bahamas Immigration, the Airport Authority, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (USCBP), and airlines to ensure a seamless reopening process.

Passengers are advised to remain in contact with their airlines and monitor LPIA’s official website, www.nassaulpia.com, along with NAD’s social media channels, for the latest updates.
