The dynamic coastal city of Huntington Beach, with its sunny Mediterranean climate and idyllic setting, is located along the Southern California coast in Orange County, 35 miles south of Los Angeles and 95 miles north of San Diego. Huntington Beach covers 28 square miles of land. With a 2012 population projection exceeding 200,000 residents, it is the third largest city in Orange County and the 16th largest city in California. Weather

According to the National Oceanographic Data Center, average temperatures for the fall months in Huntington Beach are 73 degrees in September, 71 degrees in October and 68 degrees in November. Even December is short sleeve and shorts weather at an average 65 degrees. In fact, the city has near perfect outdoor weather, since the air temperature rarely gets above 90 degrees (less than 5 days a year) or drops below freezing, and average annual rainfall is less than 12 inches per year. With 10 miles of uninterrupted, wide golden sand beaches along the Pacific Ocean, Surf City USA® beaches play host to 3.8 million visitors each year, with the greatest attendance during summer, signature annual events and weekends. The crown jewel of the city’s recreation system is the wide expanse of beautiful and spacious beaches, where large crowds gather to watch professional sporting events such as the U.S. Open of Surfing. The city also has dozens of recreational sports and activities for those who love the outdoors.

  • Huntington Beach Pier – stretching 1,850 feet into the Pacific Ocean, the Huntington Beach Pier is one of the longest recreational piers in the world.
  • Huntington Beach Ocean Strand – more than ten miles of paved trail adjacent the shoreline for biking, inline skating, jogging or walking.
  • Huntington Central Park – largest city-owned park in Orange County at 354 acres.
  • Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve –the largest coastal saltwater marsh between the Monterey Bay and the Tijuana
  • River Estuary. Its 300 acres are a vital oasis for resident shorebirds and millions of migrating birds traveling between the Arctic and South America along the Pacific Flyway. Featuring 5 miles of flat walking trails, the reserve is open to the public and free to visit.
  • Huntington Equestrian Center – 25-acre outdoor venue for competitions, wedding or special events surrounded by miles of public trails and stables. Home to the HB Therapeutic Riding Center and Free Rein Tours.
  • Huntington Harbour – a network of channels navigable by powerboat, stand up paddle board (SUP) or kayak. Rent a SUP or kayak through OC Paddlesports, Duffy boats through Huntington Harbor Boat Rentals, or book a private charter with Prince Charters LLC for groups up to 30.
  • Huntington Beach Sports Complex – a 45-acre sports park with softball and soccer fields.
  • Wetlands and Wildlife Care Center – Orange County’s education and care center for injured marine wildlife, specializing in birds.

Surf City USA® Trademark

Huntington Beach officially adopted the “Surf City USA” nickname in January 2008, after a trademark dispute between Huntington Beach and Santa Cruz. After winning the rights to use the trademark, Huntington Beach is now officially known as Surf City USA. Additional resources below:

The city's average family household income exceeds $100,000 (the highest nationwide among the top 100 largest cities in the country), while the average price for a home in Huntington Beach exceeds $600,000. The median age of city residents is 37. Huntington Beach was recently named as having the Eighth-Lowest Socio-Economic Stress among U.S. cities with populations over 100,000 by the American City Business Journals (ACBJ) (February 2005). ACBJ based its ratings on U.S. Census figures for factors that can affect a city's stability, such as poverty, unemployment, insufficient education and vacant housing.
