News / Insight Vacations' 7 Places to enjoy a drink for St. Patrick's Day in Ireland
St. Patrick’s Day is upon us and with it comes a whirlwind of parties
Insight Vacations wants clients to ingest St Patty’s Day the way it was meant to be: through the imbibing of delicious beverages across the beautiful country of Ireland.
Curragh Racecourse
Any guests with an affinity for horse racing would do well to make time for a stop at the Curragh, Ireland’s most important Thoroughbred racecourse in the County Kildare. While there, visit the Champagne Bar, a cool and contemporary restaurant that serves exquisite champagne and a wide range of wines.
O’Connells Bar & Restaurant
This spot is the location of this journey’s Farewell Dinner and specializes in the craft of making Irish Coffee. After a decadent dinner, guests are treated to a demonstration at their table, on the proper (and perfect) way to make an Irish Coffee. After the demonstration, clients are, of course, encouraged to enjoy the creation.
The Five-Star Ashford Castle
One of the most beautiful stops on this guided journey also boasts the best whiskey. In the Billiards Room of the stunning 800-year-old castle, a sumptuously-decorated space with rich colours and leather chairs, guests can choose from a selection of the finest single pot still whiskey, a style unique to Ireland. Wine tastings are also available in the Billiards Room for those who want to take in the waterfront views with a glass of red.
Mac’s Bar
Once in Killarney, guests will have an evening to themselves to wander the lively streets in search of a talented bartender. While there is certainly no shortage of pubs to choose from, we recommend Mac’s Bar, a small spot with incredible live music, delicious drinks and a cheerful clientele who are always willing to share recommendations.
O’Hara’s Irish Craft Bar
During the winding road trip to see the magnificent Ring of Kerry, travellers will get to stop at this cozy pub where they’ll find 13 taps always pouring the full beer range from the famed O’Hara’s Brewery, plus guest Irish craft beers and ciders. For anyone wanting a bit of a different taste, this pub offers a world of choice, with rare beers from Belgium, Germany and the USA.
Guinness Storehouse
It’s impossible to visit Ireland and not pop into the Guinness Brewery, a spot that Insight’s Travel Directors call nearly religious. While in Dublin, guests have the opportunity to venture through gates for a tour of the brewery, a journey that starts at the bottom of the world’s largest pint glass and ends with a glass of the Black Stuff. It’s the perfect way to kick off this adventure!
Killarney Plaza
Music is a huge aspect of Irish festivities and finding an outlet for musical tendencies isn’t as hard as finding someone who can hold a tune. At the Killarney Plaza’s Piano Bar, guests can enjoy a drink in the elegant surroundings next to a piano that has quite the reputation of starting late night sing-a-longs. Take this as a great opportunity to join in on some Irish folk songs that can be learned through multiple attempts.
