News / Fiji widens testing options to include rapid antigen test
Fiji has also announced the end of its nationwide curfew for the first time since March 2020
Effective February 9, 2022, visitors to Fiji from Travel Partner Countries over 12 years of age now have the option to use a Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) taken within 24 hours of the flight’s scheduled departure, as opposed to the more expensive PCR test to enter Fiji.
Fiji has an enviable rate of vaccination: 93%+ of Fiji’s population over the age of 15 have been fully vaccinated. That high rate coupled with the falling number of hospitalizations, the strong uptick of booster vaccines and the effectiveness of the Care Fiji Commitment, has helped the country ease its restrictions.
Fiji has also announced the end of its nationwide curfew for the first time since March 2020. And all vehicles, such as buses, vans, and taxis, can operate at full capacity. Mask-wearing is still being enforced.
“With the ease of restrictions locally and testing requirements made easier and more affordable, we’ll create more local economic activity and attract more tourists. That means more business, including micro and small businesses, more demand, and more jobs for our people. And it will further consolidate our path towards record-breaking economic growth,” said Fiji’s Acting Prime Minister and Attorney-General, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.
Fiji is also working towards phasing out the requirement of showing proof of a 3-night stay at a CFC-certified resort, as more venues are now able to facilitate the 48-hour in-country RAT, says Tourism Fiji CEO Brent Hill.
“This is another significant announcement for tourism in Fiji. It follows the already welcome recent changes, including reduced isolation protocols and adding nine new travel partner countries. We know last night’s announcements will make Fiji an even more attractive destination to travel to – cheaper, simpler, but just as safe,” said Hill.
