News / Costa Rica will allow entry of residents from six US states as of September
Costa Rica will be receiving five more flights a week
August 20 - As of September 1, Costa Rica will allow entry via air of international tourists from six states of the United States: New York, New Jersey, New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine, and Connecticut.
According to the announcement made by the Ministry of Tourism the decision was made because these six states have an epidemiological risk similar or lower than the levels of transmission for Costa Rica.
By opening the border for tourists from these states the country will be receiving five more flights a week. This represents less than a 5% of the commercial flights that were arriving to the country prior to the pandemic.
“We are taking gradual steps very carefully analyzed towards dynamizing the tourism sector which is very necessary to protect the social progress Costa Rica has achieved through this industry”, commented Gustavo Segura, Minister of Tourism.
Minister Segura insisted that all measures announced must be accompanied by the responsibility of business owners, their collaborators and, of course, the tourists to apply and respect sanitary protocols.
Tourists from the six states mentioned who wish to travel to Costa Rica must comply with four requisites:
• Fill the digital epidemiological form “Pase de Salud”
• Test negative on a COVID-19 test that must be taken 48-hours prior to the flight
• Have a travel insurance policy that covers lodging in the event of quarantine and medical expenses for Covid-19. The insurance can be international or purchased through a Costa Rican provider
• Passengers must demonstrate that they live in one of the states mentioned by presenting their driver license
Private flights from the United States will also be allowed entry to Costa Rica as of September 1st following the same requirements
