News / Denmark, France, Italy: American Airlines boosts European network with 3 new cities
The airline will fly daily to 14 European cities from Philadelphia next summer
US carrier American Airlines has announced flights to three new cities in Europe, due to operate next summer. All three will be based out of Philadelphia, with the airline targeting Copenhagen in Denmark, Nice in France, and Naples in Italy. These routes will be accompanied by the return of two former routes.
It seems to be a day of route announcements. Aer Lingus launched Airbus A330 flights to Denver and Minneapolis, while LATAM is connecting Lima and London. American Airlines is also getting in on the action by announcing its largest European expansion in four years.
New Philadelphia Routes
As mentioned, American Airlines will be launching flights to three new European cities. All of these will originate in at Philadelphia International Airport, with tickets for the three going on sale on Sunday (August 20th). All three routes are set to be operated by the Boeing 787-9.
With the addition of the new services, American Airlines will operate 15 daily services to 14 European destinations originating in Philadelphia next summer. With an additional 70 domestic destinations served, American is hoping that PHL can act as a one-stop hub for many travelers next summer.
The first of these services will see Philadelphia connected to Nice (NCE), France, a route that American Airlines says will be “a gateway to the glitz and glam of the French Riviera”. This route is set to operate daily from May 6th. It’ll take another month for the next route to launch, with American Airlines launching Naples (NAP), Italy, with daily flights on June 5th. This will be American’s 4th Italian destination and is perfect for “indulging in local Neapolitan pizza and cuisine to [visiting] the historical ruins of Pompeii”.
Finally, a day later, Boeing 787-9s will begin daily flights to Copenhagen, Denmark, on June 6th. This route allows passengers to “explore the colorful buildings in Nyhavn harbor, delight in traditional butter cookies, and experience near endless daylight”.
