It’s the most fabulous time of the year! Award season is here, and The Oscars (the most prestigious of them all) is right around the corner. We’re especially excited to see Black Panther nominated for Best Picture.

It’s rare that we see a superhero movie nominated but we’re here to report on Black Panther a little bit differently. Buckle up because WheelsUpNetwork is about to take you on a trip like never before.

 

Black Panther

Destination: Wakanda, Africa

You're probably thinking, "wait - isn't Wakanda a fictional place?" If you are thinking that then guess what? You're absolutely correct. However! You'll be shocked to know that most filming didn't take place in Africa. Scenes of Wakanda were filmed in the United States and South Korea.

 

Finding Wakanda

There has been a lot of speculation online. From researching original comics to trying to match structures to real-life architecture. It seems that most people would agree that Wakanda would be situated in the heart of Africa.

It would partially cover parts of Kenya, Sudan and Uganda. Unless you’re Dr. Abayoko, then you’re somewhere completely different.

 

Getting to Wakanda

So now you have found Wakanda, so now what? Well, it's time to travel there, and great timing too. Escape the winter for the African heat.

You have a few options on how to get there:

1. Boat
2. Flying
3. Wagon
4. On foot

Have you decided which option you would prefer? …yes? Great!

 

If you want to travel by boat

Ooh we're sorry, there are no international ferry services to Kenya, Sudan, or Uganda. However, if you do choose to sneak onto a cargo ship, you might end up in Wakanda. Or you might end up in Los Angeles. Who knows?

 

If you want to fly to Wakanda

If you're traveling from Toronto like us then it will take you approximately 16 hours to get there. If you're traveling from elsewhere in Canada or the US, it could take you anywhere from 14 - 17+ hours.

On the other hand, if you’re one of the rare mutants out there with wings, please do tell us how long it takes you to get there. We should arrange a race of some sort. Email us.

 

 

If you want to travel by wagon

• First question: Is it a little red wagon? • Second question: Who is pulling the wagon? • Third question: Did you blackmail this person? • Fourth question: Why not an SUV?

If you want to travel by foot

According to Google, the shortest distance between Kenya and United States is 13,733 km = 8,533 miles. The shortest distance from Canada to Kenya is 12,992 km = 8072 miles.

Naismiths Rule (a keen Victorian walker who applied a formula to calculate the time taken to do a walk) states that walking time = 3 miles per hour.

So according to that, it would take (from the shortest distance and without any breaks because who needs those?) around 118 days (2,844 hours) from the US and 112 days (2,690 hours) from Canada.
