While luxury over-the-water bungalows in Bora Bora and Moorea are still top sellers, Tahiti Tourism is also looking to promote its other, lesser- known islands. Here are just a few highlights of what’s on offer.

 

Bora Bora

This is iconic Tahiti, known for its luxury resorts and overwater bungalows. Last year InterContinental Bora Bora Resort & Thalasso Spa unveiled 10 premium overwater villas with private infinity pools, as well as four new 3,400-square-foot overwater suites.

The Conrad (formerly the Hilton) underwent a multimillion- dollar refurbishment and opened in March 2017, with 29 garden and beach villas and 86 overwater bungalows. Le Meridien Bora Bora is fresh from a recent renovation, and the Sofitel Bora Bora Marara Beach Resort will undergo refurbishment starting May 1.

 

 

Huahine

Referred to by locals as one of Tahiti’s best-kept secrets, Huahine offers lush forests and quaint villages, where travellers can live like a local. There are only eight villages here, along with archaeological ruins (visit them with Huahine Discovery Tours).

Accommodations range from guesthouses to the three-star Maitai Lapita Village Huahine and Le Mahana Huahine (currently under renovation).

 

 

Rangiroa

This atoll — with 240 islets strung together over 177 km — encircles a lagoon that’s considered one of the world’s greatest scuba diving destinations. There are plenty of guesthouses here; the Hotel Kia Ora Resort & Spa offers more upscale accommodations, with beach bungalows currently undergoing a refresh.
